AIIA successfully held the Greater Bay Area Academician Forum on AI Empowering Industry Development

In order to promote the exchange and cooperation in the industry application with robotics and artificial intelligence technologies, the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, in collaboration with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, held the "Robotics Intelligence and Industrial Application Seminar and Greater Bay Area Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Development Academician Forum" in Guangzhou today. The event was co-organized by the Guangdong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, China & USA Silicon Valley Development Promotion Association, Guangdong Corporation Management Consulting Association, Sichuan Comprehensive Health Industry Association, Shenzhen UAV Industry Association, International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance Yangtze River Delta Center, Sino-Austria Research Institute for Intelligent Industries (SINOAUS), and other units. The forum received support from various institutions such as Health160, South China Agricultural University Ge Gen Research Institute, A&D Technology, and Guangzhou Shilingshan Spring Water. On the morning of the 22nd, renowned academicians and experts from various fields gathered to explore the innovative applications of artificial intelligence in different industries, providing intellectual support for industrial development.



The purpose of the conference was to delve into the application of artificial intelligence technology in various fields and promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence and industrial development.

The conference officially kicked off at 9 a.m., with the host, Professor Sun Fuchun of Tsinghua University, introducing the guests in sequence. Subsequently, Mr. Xiao Renjun, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Academy of Sciences Holdings Co., Ltd., and Chairman of Foshan Industrial Technology Research Institute, delivered a welcome speech, opening the seminar and expressing high expectations for the successful convening of the conference.



Ten academicians and over 200 entrepreneurs participated in the discussion on the development of AI + industry, presenting related industry reports:


Academician Zhao Chunjiang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture, Chief Expert, and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, provided a profound analysis of the close relationship between "Artificial Intelligence and Smart Agriculture" in the first keynote speech. He shared the cutting-edge applications and technological innovations of artificial intelligence in the field of agriculture. Academician Zhao emphasized that smart agriculture is a new form of agriculture formed by the integration of biotechnology, information technology, and intelligent equipment. He shared several specific application scenarios of artificial intelligence in agriculture and highlighted the future development of agriculture towards fewer people and unmanned operations, emphasizing the widespread application of artificial intelligence in the agricultural field.



Academician Schahram Dustdar, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Professor at the Vienna University of Technology, and President of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, shared his research on the " AI-based methods for panoramic vehicle defects inspection from computing continuum perspective" He presented research results in the field of intelligent maintenance and defect detection in rail transportation using computing continua, including modular data centers, mini ITX servers, Intel NUC clusters, micro-clouds, etc. He also introduced the AI Operation Workflows platform developed by his team, emphasizing with the platform you can: argument your data without any coding efforts, and automatically constructing AI solutions based on your data by fusing SOTA AI models.



Professor Sun Fuchun, a professor at Tsinghua University and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, delved into the "Application of Embodied Large Models in Industry – Embodied Large Models and 3C Assembly Applications." He revealed how to train behavior-based large models through large-scale and diverse behavioral data to make them "more general" and task-specific models "more specialized," achieving highly intelligent industrial robots.



Academician Ding Xianping, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Sichuan Health Industry Association, and professor at Sichuan University, shared insights on "Artificial Intelligence Empowers Cell Research and Application." He pointed out that AI assists in detecting cell classification, morphological identification, characterization of cell therapy, identification of morphological characteristics not described in cancer stem cells, and accurate prediction of drug effects. AI is expected to penetrate the entire process of treatment.



European Academy of Sciences Academician and Chair Professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, Liu Derong, shared the latest perspectives on "AI-Enabled Scheduling, Management, and Control." Professor Liu first pointed out the current issues in scheduling and control. Later, he conducted a detailed analysis of several new control methods, including parallel control methods, cloud-based control methods, agent-based control methods, networked control methods, and adaptive dynamic programming and reinforcement learning.



Academician Marios M. Polycarpou, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, a professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, remotely presented an analysis on "Intelligent Fault Diagnosis in Distributed World." Academician Polycaipou explained that the research was motivated by the current demand for more complex and large-scale systems, more interconnected and interdependent systems, more embedded hardware and software, and more automation and autonomy. He emphasized the challenges in the technology, such as subsystem division, how faults/attacks propagate, handling heterogeneous data streams, diagnosing faults in evolving distributed systems, and achieving lifelong monitoring.



Director Wang Guodong of the China-Austria Intelligent Industrial Research Institute introduced "How Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Drive Innovation with AI." Director Wang covered various aspects, including the process of AI technology landing, the participation of people needed for AI technology to land, the business model for the landing of AI technology, the value that AI technology can create for enterprises, the meaning of digital transformation for enterprises, the difficulties and challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in landing AI, risk control points for small and medium-sized enterprises landing AI, and the future of AI.



Academician Liu Guoping, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Visiting Professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, presented on "Predictive Control of Networked Multi-agent Systems via Cloud Computing." Professor Liu detailed the topics from the perspectives of networked multi-agent systems, cloud predictive control, and specific scenario experiments. Finally, Professor Liu emphasized that for large-scale networked multi-agent systems with communication constraints and computing loads, the cloud predictive control solution is a positive and effective method. Cloud predictive control is expected to have wide applications, such as in smart grids. However, it still faces many challenging issues, such as real-time, security, uncertainty, and reliability.



The importance of the development of the digital economy in the Greater Bay Area became one of the hot topics of the conference. Mr. Li Zhijian, a member of the Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Innovation Economy Research Institute, shared insights on "Empowering the Real Economy with Digital Economy in the Greater Bay Area." He injected new vitality into the digital transformation of the Greater Bay Area.



Academician Zhang Qin, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, and Academician of the International Nuclear Energy Academy, introduced his research on "Trusted Intelligent Assistance for Comprehensive Clinical Diagnosis." He detailed the application of China's original artificial intelligence technology, Dynamic Uncertain Causal Graphs (DUCG), in the medical field. Unlike traditional AI technologies, DUCG has transparent and interpretable characteristics. Academician Zhang emphasized that this technology, originally applied in the fault diagnosis of nuclear power plants, has now been commercialized by Beijing Yutong Intelligence and applied to the AI-assisted diagnosis of general practitioners. The DUCG intelligent medical cloud platform has significantly improved the accuracy of primary care physicians' initial diagnoses, reduced the probability of medical errors, and consequently reduced medical accidents and costs. The system has been implemented in nearly 1,000 medical institutions nationwide and has assisted doctors in analyzing over one million real medical records.



Academician Yang Jincai, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the World UAV Conference, and President of the Shenzhen UAV Industry Association, delivered a presentation on "AI Empowers Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Industry Innovation, Application, and Developmen." He pointed out that drones are the embodiment of artificial intelligence and can serve various applications, including reconnaissance, command and dispatch, transport and airdrop, firefighting, emergency rescue, and material delivery. It is estimated that by 2024, the domestic drone market will reach 160 billion yuan, with the drone market in the express logistics sector approaching or exceeding 30 billion yuan.



Academician Jiang Linhua, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Ukrainian Engineering Academy, and Secretary-General of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance in the EU region, shared an analysis on "New Technologies and Applications of Intelligent Connected Vehicles in the Field of Intelligent Connected Vehicles." Academician Jiang explained that the research in this area is based on the current needs for more complex and large-scale systems, more interconnected and interdependent systems, more embedded hardware and software, and more automation and autonomy. He emphasized that this technology still faces many challenges, such as how to divide into subsystems, how faults/attacks propagate, how to deal with the streaming heterogeneous data, how to diagnose distributed faults in evolving systems, and how to achieve lifelong monitoring.



European Academy of Sciences Academician and Professor at South China University of Technology, Chen Junlong, shared insights on "Applications of Large Models in the Research and Development of New Drugs and Materials." Academician Chen first introduced innovative achievements in three aspects in the context of intelligent pharmaceuticals: knowledge extraction in drug retrosynthesis, knowledge representation of drug interactions, and knowledge fusion for predicting drug reactions. He then presented a high-performance computing solution based on immersion liquid cooling technology. Academician Chen's team employs large models to accelerate the research and development process for new drugs and materials.



At the conference, Academician Zhang Qin, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology, Cai Zhongtao, Secretary-General of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, Chen Shan, Head of Operations for the Guangdong Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base in the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong), Wei Chaojie, Vice President of Technology at Health160, Zhang Wei, Chief Investment Officer of HuaMei International Investment Group, and logistics industry veteran expert Zeng Haiping, among others, participated in a roundtable forum focused on "New Opportunities for Industrial Development with Aritificial Intelligence." They engaged in in-depth discussions on the applications and development trends of artificial intelligence in the industry, contributing unique insights to the promotion of industrial upgrades and technological innovation.


In the exchange session, Mr. Wei Chaojie, Vice President of Technology at Health160, introduced Health160 as a leading professional digital medical and health service platform in China. He expressed the importance of artificial intelligence in the future of the medical and health industry, thanking the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance for its facilitation. Under the guidance of the alliance, Health160 reached an agreement with the team of Academician Zhang Qin to collaborate and jointly promote the development of artificial intelligence technology in the medical and health industry. Secretary-General Cai Zhongtao of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance also explained the purpose and role of the alliance. As a bridge between scientific research achievements and industrial needs, the alliance will vigorously promote the application of scientific and technological innovation in the industry and accelerate industrial development.



Awards, Appointments, Unveilings, and Strategic Cooperation Certificates


To commend the outstanding reputation and international influence in the academic field of artificial intelligence research, as well as years of active promotion of the landing of the artificial intelligence industry in both China and Europe, Academician Schahram Dustdar of the European Academy of Sciences was invited to receive the Special Contribution Award from Mr. Xiao Renjun, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences Holdings Co., Ltd.


Academician Schahram Dustdar expressed, "I am very honored! Cooperation between China and Europe is crucial, and we will continue to work hard for it."



In order to accelerate the deep integration of academicians with the industry, the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance invited Academician Chen Junlong, Academician Liu Derong, Academician Yang Jincai, Academician Ding Xianping, and President Ding Yi to become Vice Chairmen of the Alliance. They were appointed by Academician Schahram Dustdar with letters of appointment.



The International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance Greater Bay Area Center, AI Innovation Application Development Lab & AI and Network Information Talent Training Center were officially unveiled.



To accelerate the incubation of academicians and doctoral projects, the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance announced the establishment of the AI Industry Innovation and Investment and Financing Committee. The Investment Committee will take on the important task of promoting the landing of the artificial intelligence industry and facilitating the exchange and cooperation between scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors from China, the United States, and Europe. Mr. Li Chunhong, former Director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Entrepreneurial Investment, was appointed as the consultant, Mr. Zhang Wei, Chief Investment Officer of HuaMei International, was appointed as the chairman, and Mr. Xiao Fei was appointed as the secretary-general. Mr. Li Chunhong made a concluding speech for this forum, saying, "Embracing artificial intelligence is necessary, and there are challenges and opportunities, requiring all walks of life to engage in this era of innovation!"




Professor Chen Xinmin, Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Human Resources Research Association, Chief Decision-Making Advisor to the Provincial Government, and Professor at South China Normal University, also stated, "Artificial intelligence will become the driving force in the new round of technological revolution, and the cultivation and nurturing of AI-related talents are the core keys to the success of industrial transformation."



Finally, the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, together with the Sichuan Health Industry Association, Guangdong Science and Technology Service Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, Asia-Pacific Economic Innovation Research Institute, Guangdong Enterprise Management Consulting Association, Guangdong Provincial Human Resources Research Association, Guangdong Provincial Association of Entrepreneurial Investment, Shenzhen UAV Industry Association, and many other institutions, reached strategic cooperation and presented certificates. The alliance will cooperate with influential associations in the Bay Area to jointly promote artificial intelligence + projects in this industry.



In the afternoon, Secretary-General Cai Zhongtao of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, accompanied by Academician Schahram Dustdar and Academician Ding Xianping, conducted an in-depth visit and engaged in meaningful discussions at Health160 Company in Shenzhen. The discussions extensively covered the integration of AI within the broader healthcare industry. This exchange not only laid a robust groundwork for Health160's international aspirations but also positioned the company strategically for entering the European market. Under the guidance of the alliance, Health160 reached an agreement with the team of Academician Zhang Qin to collaborate and jointly promote the development of artificial intelligence technology in the medical and health industry.
