The MIT Computer Science and Artifical Intelligence Laboratory's research topics are grouped into seven main areas: artificial intelligence, biocomputing, graphics and vision, language and learning, theory of computation, robotics and systems, including computer architecture, databases, distributed systems, networks and networked systems, and software engineering etc.
As a research institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), CSAIL is the largest campus laboratory in computer science and AI. CSAIL's research activities are essentially semi-autonomous among research groups, each headed by one or more professors or research scientists.
